Christmas story...

Emily is trying to help Nate discover the baby Jesus story and understand (sort of) that gifts were for him under the tree because the wise men gave gifts to Jesus. Emily tried to reinforce that Christmas is more about giving than getting...and that it's a celebration of Jesus' birthday...
This one time that left me in stitches...in the backseat of the car, they were having a discussion while we were out finishing up Christmas shopping in Tennessee:

E: an angel came and told Joseph that Mary was gonna have a baby and that he had to marry Mary (she really liked saying that) and that they had to name him Jesus. So, Christmas is to celebrate Happy Birthday for Jesus
N: No, it's my birday...I wan pesents...
E: No, Nate...we'll get presents but it's Jesus' birthday...he had to come to earth to die for our sins.
N: It's my birday...I want a piderman bike....
E: well, you might get a bike, but it's for Jesus' birthday.
N: No, it's my birday...
E: No, Nate...the wise men brought Jesus presents for His happy birthday!
N: I wan a birday pesent!
E: Nate, I am not talking to you about this anymore until you get older!

and she hasn't!

Together...

"The life of holiness is the life of faith in which the believer, with a deepening knowledge of his own sin and helplessness apart from Christ, increasingly casts himself upon the Lord, and seeks the power of the Spirit and the wisdom and comfort of the Bible to battle against the world, the flesh and the devil.  It is not a lonely or cheerless struggle for Christ gives the Spirit to the members of his body to help one another."   The Church , Edmund P. Clowney (Pg 89) Just a blurb from one of the ten books on Joe's nightstand this week...not lonely or cheerless---we have the fellowship of the Holy Spirit to help each other...((sigh))... The busyness of life surrounds us...sometimes lonely...sometimes loud....but always together. Joe is well under way with his second year of seminary.  Em is back to the soccer-mill.  Practice twice a week and games on Saturdays.  She had her first game last week and did an awesome job in position of goalie. Nate had his ...

Easier Days...

so today...Nate just wants to know if dogs can burp...easy answer...of course they do! We are enjoying the snow and especially enjoy that here in the Sandhills , after a few days of winter wonder land we will be back in the upper 50's. I'm pretty weary of blogging about family illnesses, but Nate is at it again...N&V, diarrhea...lovely. This morning, I mistakenly thought it was over and gave him his normal drink of chocolate milk. I know, it sounds unhealthy...but he got used to the chocolate soy milk and it was a natural transition. I use the syrup with less sugar to make me feel better. Anyway, about an hour later the den carpet and the dog were wearing the milk and Nate has thrown up a few more times since. So, I better go do a little more laundry.

allergy update...

I got a call from UNC this morning regarding Nate's allergy testing/x-rays that we went up for last week. I was very impressed with the amount of time they spent with us, both the resident and the attending...as well as all the ancillary staff (respiratory therapists, lab techs and x-ray techs were wonderful!).  They want to see him again in a month and he will need to be off his zyrtec a couple of days so they can do skin prick testing at that visit (sshhhh, don't tell him!)  The biggest goal at this point seems to be to decide if his asthma is "true asthma" or asthma caused by allergies. The results gave us some great news, some unexpected news and things to watch: Nate is not allergic to any grasses, weeds or trees.  I think a positive here might have led down the path of desensitization shots. ((YUCK)) He is allergic (mildly) to dogs & cats---for now Dr. Duncan said to not allow the dog to be/sleep in his room (which she doesn't if we catc...
