2008

It's hard to believe another year is here...I'm thinking about resolutions, but haven't come up with good ones yet and always struggle with stating them as measurable and definable (blah, blah). What do I really want to accomplish this year? What do I want to make a priority? I'm excited about 2008...the possibilities, where the journey will take us, that there's a remote chance for growth.

Yesterday was our 17th wedding anniversary. I watched our wedding video and probably for the first time, shared it with our six year old daughter. She asked lots of questions about who was who and why we were doing what we were doing. She said my dress was pretty and that she liked the flowers in my hair. She wanted to know who was doing the videotaping and if it was grandma's church where we were getting married.

It was hard to remember the emotions of that moment. There was a time when I would watch the video and just cry...my momma died six months after we were married and watching that tape always gives me a very visual reminder of her. What a blessing to have a vivid picture and the sound of her voice, her mannerisms recorded. But, as usual with memories, along with the good ones comes the bad...there was a bit o f sadness associated with our wedding day. Due to a set of circumstances that seemed out of our control, we only gave some of our immediate family a chance to attend the ceremony. We essentially eloped with a ceremony at our church with our pastor and about 15 of our family and my closest friend there.

Ahh, regrets. Hum...a resolution for 2008...to let go of the remnants of guilt and regret in my heart...definable? Measurable? Think not... Worth Pursuit? Definitely!

Very good! Oh that regrets would choose to leave us on their own, but they are like bad houseguests who take up residents and make a mess of our homes.

I will enjoy reading your blog.

Unexpected Blessings, Birds and Bees

Well, yesterday was an interesting day. It came on the heels of a weekend of sickness, both Nate and Joe. Nate was officially diagnosed with croup and exacerbation of asthma and is still taking steroids and sounds worse, but the light at the end of the tunnel is on! Joe stayed in all weekend and sounded almost as bad as Nate minus the wheezing. We kept our family home (even from church, small group, etc) feeling like hermits. And, even though the boys were both sick, I picked up sweet Bella the dog on Saturday from a friend who works with the NC Lab rescue group. We know we eventually want another dog, but not until Nate is old enough to handle it. Bella, a one year old yellow lab- sheltie mix, house-broken, crate-trained 28 pound sweet girl, is going to spend a little time at our house and see how it goes. The kids think we're pet-sitting to help out Mrs. D, which is true, sort-of. The sweetest moment came yesterday when Nate gave a bedtime blessing to Bella the Dog. &qu

2008...

If you would have even tried to tell me what events would unfold in 2008, I would have shook my head and refused to believe. Not possible for so many soul stirring events to occur in one year! Not possible for so many I know to suffer so much! Not possible for my own path to include twists, turns and doubling back on itself! Not possible to have so much peace in the midst of so much chaos! There have been moments I thought I would fold from the weight of the pain...my own and that of others...implode from the pressure of decisions and a search for clarity...For me, this has been a year of cracked foundations...a roller coaster ride of lessons that are still being learned in full...growth occurring in places I saw no need for change and enormous fallout resulting from unavoidable conflict. Humbleness...sadness...chaos...confusion...brokeness...loss of control... Yet...This year has not left me hopeless or defeated. This year has left me no longer suprised by sin...the depth of my own or
